Börjar dyka upp lite bilder och information om att det kommer släppas en Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 på den nya karossen, är väl inget som kommer att säljas i Sverige men det kanske dyker upp någon importerad bil så småning om. :)

GT350 som kom 2016 har 526hk (392kW) och 582Nm i vrid, gissningsvis så kommer GT500 ha mycket mer än så. :)

Expect an Eaton supercharger and a cross-plane crank

In a recent thread on Mustang6G, a Ford Mustang fan forum, user “Super Werty” posted two photos. One was a close-up of the car’s engine bay, showing what looks to be the top of a supercharger that’s been stamped with the Cobra symbol and “5.2 L.” The second was of an engine oil requirements document that shows the “5.2L Mustang GT350” being produced alongside the “5.2L Supercharged Mustang GT500.” Assuming the 10/13/2017 date at the bottom of the document is accurate, it’s fairly recent.

Later in the same thread, user “dwalker” posted a photo of an absolutely massive Brembo brake that they believe is also meant for the GT500. They also suggest that there may be a version called the Cobra R that’s meant to take on the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE.

Since these are forum posts, they obviously have to be taken with a grain of salt. Still, based on the admin’s confidence in the information and the forum’s past history of digging up information Ford doesn’t want us to see, we’re willing to bet this is legitimate.

As far as how much power the new GT500 will make, it really depends on how Ford wants to position it. You have to assume it will significantly outgun the GT350 and its 526 hp, but to take on the Camaro ZL1, the GT500 will need at least 650 hp. Then again, Ford may also have its sights set on the 707-hp Dodge Challenger Hellcat. Mustang6G has even heard a rumor that the GT500 might make more than 800 hp. As crazy as that would be, Hennessey already offers a supercharger upgrade for the GT350 that brings power up to a claimed (Dodge Demon-beating) 858 hp and 673 lb-ft of torque.

Regardless of how much power the supercharger adds, based on how awesome the GT350 is, we can’t wait to get our hands on the faster, sportier version.

New Ford Mustang Shelby GT500’s supercharged V-8 leaked again

Earlier in December, a photo showing a 5.2-liter supercharged V-8 with the famous Shelby Cobra snake logo surfaced on the web. The engine was claimed to be the power source of Ford’s new Mustang Shelby GT500 based on the sixth-generation Mustang, though there was no way to confirm this.

Fast forward to today and new images have surfaced that corroborate the earlier photo, and this time they come directly from Ford. Posted on the Mustang6G forum are two CAD images that show a supercharged V-8 with the same supercharging housing design. If you look closely, you’ll notice the embossed Shelby Cobra snake logo as seen in the earlier photo.

The CAD images are from a collection of official wiring diagrams supplied by Ford. They were labelled as wiring diagrams for the 2018 Mustang Shelby GT350’s 5.2-liter V-8, and the entire text overlay is for the GT350 engine, but the engine image itself is clearly a supercharged unit.

The GT500 is now thought to be arriving in early 2018, as a 2019 model. Based on the latest information, we can expect the car to be packing a supercharged version of the 5.2-liter V-8 in the GT350.

Rumors suggest the supercharged version of the engine, currently doing the rounds under the Predator code name, will feature a more conventional cross-plane crank instead of the atmo engine’s flat-plane unit. We’re sure there will be a number of other differences as the expected power rating for the engine is the 800-horsepower mark.

Other rumored details for the GT500 include a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission borrowed from the Ford GT supercar, a set of 20-inch wheels with 315-millimeter tires, an uprated Brembo brake package, and a new front fascia.

The car's main rivals will be the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE and Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. They deliver 650 and 707 hp, respectively.

GT500 name, carbon-ceramic brakes tentatively confirmed for Mustang range-topper

Another week goes by and new details about the 2019 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 have managed to surface.

This time the details come via Ford’s own OEM service portal and include the engine wiring diagrams we saw a week ago as well as service procedures that reference the GT500 name and some important specs.

According to the details, first published by The Truth About Cars blog, the GT500 will have a top speed of at least 200 mph. The final figure will likely be higher, though, considering the previous-generation GT500 already managed to crack the 200-mph mark on Italy’s Nardo test track (the rumored number is 202 mph).

The service procedures also make mention of carbon-ceramic brakes, a head-up display, and the use of damper control. The latter will likely be the same magnetic ride control suspension used on the Mustang Shelby GT350.

Interestingly, the GT500’s driving modes selector will allegedly omit Track and Snow/Wet modes in favor of new Drag Strip setting and Launch Control modes, suggesting the car will be targeted more toward the drag strip than the race track.

And one final, worrying detail is the absence of the GT350's naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V-8 for the 2019 model year in the VIN decoder of the service portal. This suggests the GT350 might disappear once the GT500 rolls in. The listed engines include the 2.3-liter turbocharged inline-4 of the Mustang EcoBoost, the 5.0-liter V-8 of the Mustang GT, and a new supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 for the GT500.

With so much info already upon us, the GT500’s reveal can’t be far. A good bet is the 2018 North American International Auto Show taking place in Detroit in a fortnight. Stay tuned.

Most powerful production car in Ford history is coming to Detroit in 2019

Here's something to look forward to at the 2019 Detroit auto show: the Mustang Shelby GT500, a car that Ford says will be its most powerful street-legal production vehicle to date.

Yep, after taking the wraps off the 2019 Bullitt and rolling out one of the original cars from the Steve McQueen movie alongside it for good measure, Ford decided to go one step further and tease an even more extreme take on the Mustang. You know, for those of you who thought the GT350 wasn’t quite enough car.

This isn't a total surprise -- we've suspected the GT500 has been in the works for a while now, but now we know exactly when we'll see it. You can check out a few bits and pieces of the car in the teaser video above; that’s all we’ve got for now. It’s about one minute of creepy CGI snake eyes, tight shots of a wing, vents and mega-low front aero, plus a guest appearance by a vintage GT500.

Being a teaser, it’s short on anything substantive -- except for the promise of 700-plus horsepower courtesy of its supercharged V8. That’s enough to handily best the 647 hp of the Ford GT (then again, the last-gen GT500 already did that with 662 hp), and put it within venom-spitting distance of the Dodge Hellcats -- not that horsepower alone is the sole measure of a performance car. But if the GT350 is anything to go by, it’ll go around a track beautifully and sound wonderful doing it.

Maybe this is how it’s going to be from here on out: For every electric SUV, we get a nutso modern twist on a classic V8 pony car. If this is Ford’s idea of maintaining balance in the universe, we’ll take it.

There's a new Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 coming next year, and according to Ford it will pack over 700 horsepower.

We've heard that the final figure might be closer to 800 horses and now a clue may have come our way in the form of potential Easter egg tucked away in an online brochure for the 2018 Mustang.

Thanks to an eagle-eyed Reddit user, we've learned that page eight of the 24-page brochure shows the 2018 Mustang's digital gauge cluster, which just so happens to show a car in 7th gear and traveling at 72 mph. Put 7 and 72 together and you're looking at 772. Yes, we could be looking at a 772-hp GT500.

That's not all. We also see that the gauge shows a 74.3-mile reading on the odometer; does this translate to 743 pound-feet of torque? We can't know for sure until Ford says so.

There is a precedent for all of this, however. In the lead up to the reveal of the 2018 Mustang, Ford provided a clue about the power rating of the Mustang GT in a similar fashion. In the previous case, an image of the Mustang's digital gauge cluster showed a car in 4th gear and traveling at 55 mph. As Mustang fans will recall, 455 hp was the targeted output for the Mustang GT but the final result was an even better 460 hp.

Few actually realized there was a hidden clue until Ford spokesperson Mike Levine mentioned it in a Twitter post last January.

What we do know about the new GT500 is that it will come with a supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 related to the naturally aspirated mill in the Shelby GT350 and Shelby GT350R. We're not expecting the GT500 to get the flat-plane crank of the GT350 duo, however.

The GT500 should also come with available carbon-ceramic brakes, a carbon fiber rear wing, a unique front fascia with extended lip spoiler, and possibly even a version of the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission fitted to the Ford GT supercar.

2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 spy shots and video

Ford engineers are out testing the next step in performance for the sixth-generation Mustang: the Shelby GT500.

The new model will fill the void left by the previous generation’s Shelby GT500 and is confirmed for sale in 2019, likely as a 2020 model.

Ford has already given us our first look at the vehicle by way of a teaser. The teaser reveals a more aggressive face than on the Shelby GT350R, including larger intakes in the front fascia and a nice power bulge on the hood.

From our spy shots, it looks like the front track has been widened slightly. The prototype is also wearing massive Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires and features beefy Brembos with cross-drilled rotors. The rear is similar to the design of the Shelby GT350R but a larger wing is mounted to the trunk lid in some of the shots and a new diffuser has been added.

What’s lurking beneath the hood is a supercharged version of the 5.2-liter V-8 in the Shelby GT350 and Shelby GT350R. The supercharged engine is expected to feature a conventional cross-plane crank instead of the atmo engine’s flat-plane unit, and no doubt there will be upgrades to other internals to handle extra grunt; we're hearing something close to 800 horsepower (the last Shelby GT500 had 662 hp) is possible. Leaked CAD images indicate a cool cobra snake logo will feature on the supercharger housing.

We’ve also heard that the new Mustang top dog will be fitted with the 10-speed automatic Ford developed with General Motors. GM has already fitted it to the Chevy ZL1 1LE and boasts that the unit is quicker than the best dual-clutch transmissions, including Porsche’s PDK. An alternative could be the 7-speed dual-clutch unit fitted to Ford's GT supercar. We hope a 6-speed manual is also offered.

There will be loads of carbon fiber parts for the car, too. Items we know are coming are a carbon fiber rear wing, carbon fiber wheels, and carbon-ceramic brake rotors (perhaps as an option). We can also see an interesting design for the side skirts in the latest shots. These could also be made from carbon fiber.

Key competition include the aforementioned Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE, as well as the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. The rival models deliver 650 and 808 hp (840 hp with race fuel), respectively.

Ford has indicated that the Shelby GT500 will more closely target the Demon than the ZL1 1LE. It will still be able to attack a corner, but for the Mustang buyer looking to hone their track skills the GT350R will probably remain the better buy.

Ford will launch a Mustang Shelby GT500 next year and the automaker has just dropped a new photo.

This time it isn't a shadowy teaser we're talking about but a clear shot giving us a bird’s-eye view of the 700-plus-horsepower super muscle car. It joins a previous teaser shot and video, as well as our own spy shots of prototypes.

Clearly visible is the car's new vented hood, which has been designed to keep the 5.2-liter supercharged V-8 residing beneath cool. The engine will feature a cobra snake logo on its supercharger housing and is expected to skip the flat-plane crank of the naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V-8 Ford uses for its Mustang Shelby GT350. All Ford will say is that the engine will bring more than 700 horses.

Getting back to the teaser, we also get an impression of the widened front fenders along with a glimpse of the front splitter, which we know from spy shots will be joined by a pair of dive planes. A massive wing, in carbon fiber, can be seen at the rear. The focus on downforce suggests a level of a capability beyond just the drag strip.

Key competition for the Shelby GT500 will be the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE and Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. The rival models deliver 650 and 707 hp, respectively. Given the improvements Ford has made with its latest Mustangs in the areas of ride and handling, the car may also lure some buyers of pricey sports cars like the Mercedes-AMG GT and Porsche 911.

The previous-generation Shelby GT500 impressed us with its combination of power and civility, though still left us wanting more. It doesn't appear that that will be the case this time around. Stay tuned.

Here's Ford's hottest road-going Mustang ever, before you're supposed to see it

During a recent Ford dealer conference in Las Vegas, someone managed to snap a picture of the upcoming Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. We’ve known the latest addition to the Shelby-badged Mustang was coming since it was confirmed at this year’s Detroit auto show, but Ford’s managed to keep most of the Mustang’s details under wraps.

While we still don’t know exactly what’s going on underneath the sheetmetal, this is what the GT500 will look like when it makes its public debut. The front end appears to the same as the pre-facelifted ponies, which makes sense considering the GT350 didn’t receive the same styling enhancements as the regular Mustang GT.

It’s tough to say exactly how much power the GT500 will make, but we learned earlier this year that it won’t have a horse less than 700. The transmission was expected to be a quick-shifting dual-clutch, but that information still hasn’t worked its way to the surface. We expect the flat-plane crankshaft to stay on Ford's engineering cutting-room floor, with a more robust piece in its place.

There was also reported talk of a four-door Mustang variant coming in the pipeline. We’re having a hard time picturing a four-door Mustang, but we’ll see if those rumors hold any water in the coming months.

Muscle car fans hoping for a surprise reveal of the new Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 at this week's 2018 Los Angeles auto show are in for disappointment as Ford is saving the debut for January's 2019 Detroit auto show, a company spokesman confirmed to Motor Authority on Tuesday.

Instead, the Blue Oval's focus in L.A. this week is the launch of the 2020 Lincoln Navigator. The handsome luxury crossover SUV was revealed on Tuesday and goes on sale next summer.

As for the Shelby GT500, Ford has released a handful of teasers over the past year, and a new one is on display in L.A. A 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is highlighted in Ford's stand and below the car it reads "GT500 1.14.19," along with cards detailing the history of the Shelby Mustangs over the years. "1.14.19" is the opening date for next year's Detroit show.

Ford showed the car at a dealer event held in October, with one individual attending the event having snapped a photo and posting it online.

In addition to aggressive looks, the car is known to be coming with a 5.2-liter supercharged V-8 that Ford has confirmed will deliver over 700 horsepower. The engine will feature a cobra snake logo on its supercharger housing and is expected to skip the flat-plane crank of the naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V-8 Ford uses for its Mustang Shelby GT350. What isn't so clear is whether a manual transmission will be offered as there are rumors Ford is developing the car with a dual-clutch setup only.

Key competition for the Shelby GT500 will be the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE and Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye. The rival models deliver 650 and 797 hp, respectively. Given the improvements Ford has made with its latest Mustangs in the areas of ride and handling, the car may also lure some buyers of pricey sports cars like the Mercedes-AMG GT and Porsche 911.

Following the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500's debut at the 2019 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Ford will use the potent pony car to give back for charity.

Ford announced on Friday that the first production Shelby GT500 will be auctioned off for charity at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale (Arizona) auction in January. Specifically, all proceeds will go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to help fund continued research to cure the disease.

Both Edsel Ford II and Aaron Shelby will be on hand to help promote the auction and hopefully bring in well over six figures to benefit the excellent cause. Ford has worked with JDRF for decades and has donated $60 million in the past 35 years.

Thanks to the internet, we already have a good idea of what to expect from the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500. A previous leak showed off the pony car's exterior, while Ford itself teased the GT500's engine last month. Expect a 5.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine that makes more than 700 horsepower. While speculative, the transmission could be the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic that is paired with the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 in the Ford GT. Also expect a set of 20-inch wheels with 315-millimeter tires at the rear. A more aggressive Brembo brake package is allegedly part of the package, too.

The 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 will debut on Jan. 14 in Detroit before sales of the car start in fall of 2019 as a 2020 model. It's unclear how many model years are on tap for the car. The GT500 will likely be the final shebang for this generation Mustang as a new model is expected for 2022. Judging by what we know so far, it will be a proper going-away present for the sixth-generation Mustang.

Äntligen är den här och nu kan vi både se och lyssna på den starkaste Mustangen någonsin.

Under mer än ett år har nätet flödat över av rykten och "läckta" bilder, men nu kan vi äntligen grotta ner oss i alla detaljer kring nya Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. Hellcat-modellerna från Dodge och Camaro ZL1 borde vara oroade – kanske även Corvette ZR1?

Till skillnad från lillebror Shelby GT350 så får GT500 en konventionell vevaxel (crossplane istället för flatplane). Den kompressormatade 5,2-liters V8:an ska ge "över 700 hk" men den slutgiltiga effektsiffran får vi vänta på. Laddluftkylaren under kompressorn har vattenkylning. Rödmarkeringen börjar vid 7.500 rpm.

En nyhet som inte förekom så flitigt bland ryktena är att Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 har en helt ny typ av unik, sjustegad dubbelkopplingslåda från Tremec. Det finns ingen manuell låda som option för de som vill veva runt själv. Automatlådan skiftar växel på under 100 millisekunder, snabbare än någon kan växla manuellt. Lådan är kopplad till en kardanaxel i kolfiber och drivaxlarna är grövre.

Med så mycket effekt behövs det rejäla hejdare och fram sitter stora 16,5-tums bromsskivor från Brembo, med sexkolvsok. Michelin Pilot Sport 4S kan monteras som tillval, annars levereras Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 med specialutvecklade Michelindäck. Fälgarna är 20 tum i diameter.

Stötdämparna kontrolleras elektroniskt med flera olika körprogram och det finns även en elektrisk "line-lock" som kan låsa framhjulen när man ska värma upp bakdäcken. Launch control ingår också, förstås.

Toppeffekten får vi alltså vänta på och något pris är inte heller angivet, ännu. Men +700 hk ska räcka för 0–60 mph (96 km/h) på runt 3,5 sekunder och på kvartsmilen ska man komma under 11 sekunder. Leveranserna av Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 startar i höst, som årsmodell 2020.

5 Things to know about the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

The most powerful street-legal Ford in history goes on sale this fall

1. The Engine
Under the hood of the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is a 5.2-liter aluminum alloy V8 paired with a supercharger. This handbuilt engine features wire-arc cylinder liners, which help save weight, in addition to high-flow aluminum cylinder heads. Ford also added larger forged connecting rods. Meanwhile, the structural oil pan below uses a patented active baffle system to direct oil to where it's needed, while also reducing vibration and adding structural strength. The result is 700-plus hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. (Those numbers, of course, are preliminary and will prolong the anticipation a bit for Mustang fans who are keeping an eye on Hellcat numbers).

"With its supercar-level powertrain, the all-new Shelby GT500 takes the sixth-generation Mustang to a performance level once reserved only for exotics," said Hermann Salenbauch, global director, Ford Performance vehicle programs.
Expect 0-60 mph launches in the mid-three-second range and quarter-mile times south of 11 seconds.

2. The Supercharger
A 2.65-liter Roots-style supercharger with an integrated liquid-to-air intercooler is paired with the V8 powerplant, but this unit is far trickier than most we've seen in the past. Ford worked to keep weight (and height) down, tucking the blower as low as possible in the V8 valley. The result is that the body team didn't have to add a hood that's much taller than the stock version, and the low position of the supercharger also works to keep the weight lower in the car.

3. The Transmission
If you were hoping for a six- or seven-speed manual transmission in this car, you're going to be disappointed. The only transmission on the menu is a new Tremec seven-speed dual-clutch unit, one that can shift smoothly in less than 100 milliseconds.

This DCT unit was engineered to work with a number of driving modes including sport, slippery, normal, track and drag. This DCT also features line-lock and rpm-selectable launch control paired with Track Apps.

"As a Mustang, it has to be attainable and punch above its weight," said Hermann Salenbauch, global director, Ford Performance vehicle programs. "To that end, we’ve set a new standard among American performance cars with our most powerful street-legal V8 engine to date, plus the quickest-shifting transmission ever in a Mustang for all-out precision and speed."

4. Suspension and Brakes
The Shelby GT500 is wider, of course, but it's more than just a body kit and a lowered suspension setup. This Mustang features a next-gen active MagneRide suspension, while as standard equipment the car wears 20-inch-by-11-inch Ford Performance alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. But those seeking a little more grip can upgrade to 20-inch-by-11.5-inch carbon-fiber wheels out back with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 tires. Providing the stopping power (more crucial here than in other Mustangs) are 16.5-inch (420 millimeter) two-piece rotors up front with Brembo six-piston calipers.

"Two handling packages with increasing levels capability are offered for the all-new Shelby GT500," Ford says. "An available Handling Package includes adjustable strut top mounts and spoiler with Gurney flap. For the truly hardcore, an available Carbon Fiber Track Package features exposed 20-inch carbon-fiber wheels with 0.5-inch-wider rear wheels (11.5-inch), custom Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, adjustable exposed carbon fiber GT4 track wing and splitter wickers with integrated dive plane. The rear seat is deleted to reduce weight."

5. The Body
There are more changes to the body than meet the eye -- the Shelby GT500 may stay relatively anonymous in traffic, aside from the stripes -- but there are plenty of aerodynamic changes that have been made to make it perform at the track. Ford doubled the front fascia openings compared to the Shelby GT350, packing six heat exchangers to bump up cooling airflow by more than 50 percent, in addition to sculpting other aerodynamic elements in the front to increase downforce. The front fenders were widened to house the 20-inch-by-11-inch as well as the 20-inch-by-11.5-inch wheels. The rear diffuser, meanwhile, uses composite materials for thermal management.

"The team leveraged Ford’s motorsports technical center in North Carolina and Windshear, with its rolling wind tunnel -- where top-tier racing teams test -- to perfect the design of the Shelby GT500," Ford says.

2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 #001 sells for $1.1M

Following the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500's debut at the 2019 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Ford has used the potent pony car to give back to charity.

The automaker sold the build slot for the first production example, the car bearing a VIN ending in 001, for charity on Friday at Barrett-Jackson's annual auction in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The final bid was a cool $1.1 million, placed by Barrett-Jackson's own chairman and CEO, Craig Jackson. Both Edsel Ford II and Aaron Shelby, grandson of the legendary Carroll Shelby, were present to help get the bids up.

All proceeds from the sale will go to JDRF, a diabetes research foundation helping to fund continued research to cure the disease. Ford has worked with JDRF for decades and has donated $70 million in the past 35 years.

The 2020 Shelby GT500's 5.2-liter supercharged V-8 with a 2.65-liter Eaton blower pushing 12 psi generates over 700 horsepower. The power is then routed to the rear wheels via a Tremec 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The last part of the equation is Michelin's Pilot Sport4 summer tires, or Pilot Sport Cup 2 superhero tires if the box for the carbon fiber track package is ticked. Performance numbers aren't yet finalized, but Ford said the super muscle car will run the quarter mile in under 11 seconds, and blast 0-60 mph in the mid 3.0-second bracket.

The car goes on sale this fall. Final specs, including the all-important price tag, will be announced closer to the market launch.

Dodge Hellcat och Corvette ZR1 får se sig slagna. Fords kompressorladdade 5,2-liters V8:a har ännu högre toppeffekt: 770,5 hk och vridmomentet toppar på 847 Nm.

Vilken muskelbil har flest hästkrafter? Frågan kan tyckas vara av akademisk natur då bakhjulsdrivna bilar mest skapar däckrök, oavsett om de har 600 eller 700 hästar. Men någon måste trots allt vara värst …

Idag går Ford ut med de officiella siffrorna för deras muskelbilsmodell Mustang Shelby GT500: 760 hp och 625 poundfeet i vridmoment. Räknar vi om amerikanska horsepower till metriska hästkrafter så blir toppeffekten 770,5 hk och vridmomentet (som är förvånansvärt lågt, ZR1 har nästan 1.000 Nm) hamnar på 847 Nm.

Om vi håller oss till amerikanska hp så innebär det att Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 har 110 hästar mer än Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, 53 hästar mer än de olika varianterna av Dodge Hellcat (och även Jeep Trackhawk) samt fem hästar över Corvette ZR1.

Ford skriver i sin pressrelease att Mustang Shelby GT500 är Fords kraftfullaste, gatlegala modell någonsin. Vilket är sant.

Men sedan skriver Ford att detta även är världens kraftfullaste, överladdade V8-motor. Och där börjar marknadsavdelningen att tumma en hel del på sanningen. Tittar vi på amerikanska modeller ger Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeys 797 hp och Dodge Challenger Demon utvecklar 840 hp. Och frågar vi en liten biltillverkare i Ängelholm har de flera exempel på överladdade V8:or som ger betydligt fler hästar än så.

V8-motorn i Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 är på 5,2 liter och har – till skillnad från GT350 – en konventionell vevaxel, inte en "flat", eller platt vevaxel. Därmed bör Mustang Shelby GT500 ha ett traditionellt V8-ljud. Kompressorn komprimerar luft som trycks in i de åtta cylindrarna genom en vätskekyld laddluftkylare. Rödmarkeringen ska börja vid 7.500 rpm men Shelby-motorn lär leverera tillräckligt med kraft långt tidigare.

Transmissionen har Ford beställt från Tremec, en sjustegad dubbelkopplingslåda som ska ha extremt snabba växlingar. Ford portionerar ut informationen runt Mustang Shelby GT500. Vi har inte fått några prestandauppgifter och framför allt inte något pris, ännu. Men de lär komma, snart.

I början av året presenterade Ford nya Mustang Shelby GT500, men några effektsiffror fick vi inte då. Det får vi däremot nu – 770 hästkrafter plockas ur 5,2 liter stora och kompressormatade V8:an.

Nya Mustang Shelby GT500 hade världspremiär på bilsalongen i Detroit i januari. Förutom att vi fick skåda muskelbygget bjöds vi även på vaga specifikationer. Det enda vi fick reda på är att motorn är en 5,2-liters V8, byggd med GT350-motorn som grund men utan den platta vevaxeln, som med en gigantisk kompressor på 2,65 liter når över 700 hästkrafter, att den sjuväxlade dubbelkopplingslådan kan byta växel på mindre än 0,1 sekund, att 0-97 km/h (0-60 mph) går på runt 3,5 sekunder och att kvartsmilen avverkas på under elva sekunder.

Nu, ett halvår senare, berättar Ford lite mer om bilen i allmänhet och om motorn i synnerhet. De benämner nya Mustang Shelby GT500 som deras kraftfullaste gatlegala bil någonsin och motorn har de gett epitetet ”mest effekttäta kompressormatade produktions-V8:an i världen”. Med effekttäthet syftar Ford högst sannolikt på fler hästkrafter per liter. Tar vi fram våra matematikkunskaper, division i detta fall, får vi 148 hästkrafter per liter. Det kan jämföras med Dodge Challenger SRT Demon som plockar 852 hästkrafter ur 6,2 liter kompressormatad V8, det vill säga 137 hästkrafter per liter.

770 hästkrafter (760 amerikanska diton) och 847 newtonmeter är oerhörda siffror. Exempelvis hade gamla GT500 ”endast” 547 hästkrafter och 691 newtonmeter när den kom 2010. I sitt värsta utförande hade den 671 hästkrafter och 856 newtonmeter.

Nu väntar vi bara på att Ford ska meddela de officiella prestandasiffrorna. Vad gäller toppfarten har det ryktats om att den ska vara elektroniskt begränsad till 290 km/h och att Ford valt att inte fokusera på stabilitet i extrema hastigheter utan i stället riktat in sig på att få fram en bil som gör bra ifrån sig även när rak väg blir kurvig.

När nu Mustang Shelby GT500 är kommen återstår det bara att Shelby American sätter klorna i bilen och skapar ännu en Super Snake. Gamla generationen GT500 Super Snake hade 862 hästkrafter.

Under huven på den kommande Fort Mustang Shelby GT500 sitter en kompressormatad V8:a på 5,2 liter som producerar 771 hästar och 847 Nm. Detta gör den till den starkaste Fordmodellen som någonsin tillverkats, inkluderat superbilen Ford GT som ger, det i sammanhanget blygsamma, 656 hästar och 746 Nm.

Att nya GT500 blir snabb är självklart. Och Ford har nu presenterat en del siffror på exakt hur kvick den blir. Noll till 160 km/h och tillbaka till stillastående går på blixtsnabba 10,6 sekunder.

Noll till 100 km/h ska vara avklarat på låga tre sekunder, och kvartsmilen tillryggaläggs på under 11 sekunder.

En sjustegad dubbelkopplingslåda från Tremec skickar de 771 hästarna till bakhjulen via en drivaxel i kolfiber. Själva växlingarna går på 80 millisekunder.

Som standard sitter Michelin Pilot Sport 4 däck runt om, men om man klickar i tillvalet "Carbon Fibre Track Package" får man de ännu klibbigare Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 däcken istället.

Den typen av fartresurser som Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 sitter på tarvar en stabil uppsättning hejdare. Det har Fort sett till och Shelby GT500 bestyckas med 41,9 centimeter stora bromsskivor fram.

För att förare med kort varsel ska kunna göra en "launch"-start har Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 alltid ett launchsystem aktiverat, oavsett vilket körläge bilen är i.

Nu är det officiellt. Den europeiska marknaden går miste om kommande Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, detta skriver gtspirit. Detta är något oväntat med tanke på att Ford har rapporterat fina försäljningssiffror för Mustang i Europa. Men den mest "potenta frukten" blir vi alltså snuvade på.

Mest troligt handlar det om svårigheter att komma ner under EU:s nya, hårdare utsläppsregler. Från 2021 får en biltillverkare som högst ha ett genomsnittligt koldioxidutsläpp på 95 g/km för hela fordonsparken.

Sannolikt bedömde Ford det som för kostsamt att utveckla ett partikelfilter som är kompatibelt med den höga effekten i Shelby GT500, som ju ligger på 770 hästar och 847 Nm. En svagare europaversion, som i fallet Ford Mustang Bullitt, är inte heller något alternativ kan vi konstatera.

Ford får istället hoppas på att Shelby GT500 säljer som den ska på de marknader där den kommer erbjudas – Nordamerika, Mexiko och Mellanöstern.

Jay Leno’s Garage provkör nya Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 med 770 hk – och blir imponerad

Det är ingen hemlighet programledaren Jay Leno gillar Ford Mustang. Och därför är humöret på topp när han äntligen får provköra Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.

Nu svämmar nätet över av filmer och artiklar om Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, då embargodatum har passerats. Och precis som vi kunde gissa är bilnörden och programledaren Jay Leno först i kön att provköra muskelbilen.

Som guide i garaget har Jay Leno fått Fords representant Dave Pericak, som har den helt underbara titeln "Director of Icons". Filmen bjuder på en grundlig, teknisk genomgång och Jay Leno bjuder på en hel del historiska reflektioner.

Den bil som rullat in hos Jay Leno är utrustad med kolfibertillvalet Carbon Fiber Track Pack, som kostar häftiga 18.500 dollar (fast då ingår ganska mycket, dock inget baksäte). Listpriset för Mustang Shelby GT500 börjar vid 73.995 dollar. Vill man ha målade fartränder på sin Shelby så är det bara att hosta upp 10.000 dollar, men de i plast kostar endast 1.000 dollar. Klickar man i alla tillval så hamnar notan på 107.080 dollar.

Och de av er som är på väg att ringa upp sin vänliga Fordhandlare för att beställa en Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 kan lägga på luren igen. Modellen är inte aktuell för försäljning i Europa, till skillnad mot Mustang Shelby GT350.

När Ford premiärvisade Mustang Shelby GT500 fick vi inga prestandasiffror. Men en oberoende biltestare lyckades sätta en svit av snabba körningar på strippen, med 10,61 och 214 km/h som bästa tid. 0–60 mph (96 km/h) ska gå att klara av på 3,3 sekunder, "under ideala förhållanden" enligt Ford.
